Four gentlemen are enjoying an afternoon out of doors - they even have beverages chilling along side one of their top hats! The attention to detail is stunning!
Walter Dendy Sadler (1854-1923), born 12 May 1854 in Dorking, an English artist, and brought up in Horsham, showed an early talent for drawing. At age 16 he decided to become a painter and enrolled for two years at Heatherly's School of Art in London from 1870-71, subsequently studying in Dusseldorf Germany under Burfield and Wilhelm Simmler, 1871-77.He exhibited at the Dudley Gallery from 1872 and at the Royal Academy from 1873-1914. He painted contemporary people in domestic and daily life pursuits, showing them with comical expressions illustrating their greed, stupidity etc. Sadler was best known for his pictures of good-natured monks. He was criticized for this background detail, as it supposedly detracted from the subjects of his pictures. Framed Dimensions: 30.5" x 26.5"
