Ben Hogan, age 38, won the first of his two Masters titles in 1951, two strokes ahead of runner-up Skee Riegel. It was the fifth of his nine major titles.

1953 was Ben Hogan's finest year, and one of the finest years ever played by any professional golfer. Hogan won the 1953 Masters in dominant fashion, he broke par everyday; shooting 70 — 69 — 66 — 69 to beat Ed "Porky" Oliver by five and set a new tournament record of 274. Hogan eclipsed the previous record held by Ralph Guldahl and Claude Harmon by 5 strokes. Hogan would go on the capture the U.S. Open and British Open and eventually won 5 of the 6 events he entered that year.
